2008 CFD OIL brought together more than 200 experts from the oil and gas sector
CFD OIL contributes to the synergy between the market and the academy

The 3rd Latin American CFD Workshop Applied to the Oil Industry - 2008 CFD OIL - , held in Rio de Janeiro, August 18-19, brought together 200 engineers and scientists dedicated to the developement of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solutions.
Approximately 40 CFD technical papers addressed to the upstream, downstream, distribution and risk analysis areas were presented at the event, organized by PETROBRAS, SINMEC/UFSC and ESSS, and ten CFD experts from United States, Germany and Brazil were the keynote speakers at the plenary session.
“The participation of scientists and executives from Brazil and abroad was a great contribution and has motivated us to deepen even more our studies”, says Waldir P. Martignoni, Senior Consultant at Petrobras. “Computational Fluid Dynamics allows our team to improve processes and reduce operating costs. Moreover these tools allow us to foresee possible problems as early as possible and avoid them”.
Professor Clovis R. Maliska, CFD Laboratory Coordinator at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (SINMEC/UFSC) says CFD OIL is already a traditional event of simulation in Brazil and, undoubtedly, the CFD most important Latin American event. “CFD OIL has the significance of academic conferences and brings together executives, scientists and students. It is a great contribution to the synergy between the market and the academy”.
Carlos Eduardo Fontes, ESSS’ Technical Coordinator, says CFD OIL is already greatly respected by the international community. “The quality of speakers and technical presentations is the reason for the success of the event. Just to give you an idea the number of attendees doubled this year in relation to 2006."
Objectives
CFD Oil’s main objective is to keep a discussion forum to those interested (users and developers) in Computational Fluid Dynamics Software, specially the ones involved with applications related to the oil and gas industry.
This meeting is a natural sequence of the 1st CFD Workshop Applied to the Oil Industry, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on March, 2003, as an initiative of Petrobras, SINMEC/UFSC and ESSS. The event brought together, scientists, professors and academics dedicated to solutions for the modeling of problems in the areas of exploration, production, refining and distribution involved with heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics and chemical reactions.
Expected Results:
-
Information interchange between professionals and scientists in order to solve the Latin American industrial problems.
-
Development of agreements and partnership programs (Industry-Academy).
-
New R&D projects for industrial applications.
